3 Wheel Double Buggy

The Fox 5 is an all-terrain stroller that's ideal for parents who like to take a trip off-road. It has impressive suspension and large, puncture-proof wheels.

Our test participant Claire was impressed by the neat packaging, easy-to-open and deemed it to be one of the quickest and easiest pieces of baby equipment to put together. She tested it on some rough terrain and was impressed with its performance.

Seats

The majority of 3 wheel double buggies are designed as single pushchairs. However, some models can be converted to accommodate a second seat with adapters. You'll also see that some models will allow you to include a ride-onboard for older children who wish to walk but still need some help.

For a lightweight option that is ideal for city streets, check out the Joie Evalite Duo. It's easy to move and has a large basket with lots of storage. It can accommodate twins starting at birth and accepts two car seats or a carrycot with a seat. However, the seats have to face forwards and there's not enough space for a shopping bag under which is why you'll need a backpack for that.

If you're looking to go off-road then the Mountain Buggy Duet is a great choice. It's a side-by-side with the slimmest footprint of any double buggy on the market. This makes it easier to squeeze through doors that are narrow and on public transport, and allows you to climb up and down kerbs without too much trouble. The adjustable handlebar has a handbrake for added safety and security.

Another option that is light weight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double, which can be used for twins or a baby and toddler. The seats can be reclining in multiple positions with UPF 50+ sunshades. The canopy can be adjusted so that the sun does not touch your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into an UPPAbaby triple by incorporating UPPAbaby's "PiggyBack" board, which is designed for older children.

The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most sought-after available. This is due to their superb comfort. It's an all-terrain model with soft suspension that can easily handle bumpy surfaces. It can accommodate up to 30 seating configurations, and includes a built-in ride-on for older kids who prefer walking plus a 'cinema seating' mode that raises the back seat to allow for better visibility.

The phil&teds dot is a brilliant single buggy from the beginning that can then easily adapt to take 2 (or 3!) in multiple configurations. This is particularly useful when you have a child in your car. The frame can be fitted to a wedgie, which allows for the most optimal lying-flat position. Car seat adapters that fit many brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine how easy you and your child/children are able to push it. A smooth ride is crucial since babies can feel every bump in the road, especially if it's on rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Some models also have locking front wheels to help with maneuvering and getting over obstacles like curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres which will give you a great all-terrain adventure, but they could be susceptible to punctures, so make sure you have a spare set in the trunk. Others have foam or gel tyres that are designed to take the bumps and can be less susceptible to punctures, however, you might find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable for your child's back should you decide to jog.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the Urban Glide 2 through its paces with her newborn and 3 wheel stroller reversible seat years old son, and found it performed admirably on difficult terrains: "it navigated effortlessly over bumpy pavements and grass, cobbles and dirt tracks effortlessly and was easy to maneuver around corners and go up and down kerbs. It's even very pleasant to jog with the 16" rear wheels and lockable swivel front wheel providing a safe jogging experience." The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, like an enormous seat unit that comes with padded cover as well as a hood that has 50+ UV protection, and easy-to-use and rechargeable lights.

Folding
